Early warning of flat tyres with new Wheely Safe from Geoffrey Harris Tyres

Cornwall’s Geoffrey Harris Tyres has supplied local dairy farm Wills Brothers with a patented new safety system to protect machinery and trailers from the risk of tyre under-inflation.

Arable manager Tom Wills specified the Michelin Tyre Pressure Management System (TPMS) Light Fleet – pioneered by UK technology firm Wheely-Safe – after seeing the product on show at Lamma.

Keen to put it to the test, he turned to Geoffrey Harris Tyres, a Michelin Exelagri dealer, to fit the system onto a tandem-axle trailer used intensively on the road and in the field.

Tom said: “We recently suffered a tyre failure on one of our trailers, which the manufacturer put down to us running under-inflated. We were keen to ensure this couldn’t happen again, and when we saw everything the Wheely-Safe system could do we were pretty much sold on the spot.

“It’s paramount our drivers have confidence they are running on tyres maintained in optimum condition, and it’s reassuring to know that with this kit fitted, they’ll be proactively alerted to pressure issues, even on the move.”

Mike Harris, managing director at Geoffrey Harris Tyres added: “Michelin TPMS Light Fleet comprises ‘plug and play’ sensors which replace the valve caps on each tyre and auto-pair with a solar-powered display unit in the cab.

“This warns the driver should a tyre become under-inflated, over-inflated, or if fast leakage is detected. It can even send an alert if the air temperature inside the tyre reaches 100 degrees Celsius, which could indicate an impending tyre blow-out.”
