Success at South Molton vintage tractor sale

Huge crowds flocked to the dispersal sale of interesting vintage tractors, stationary engines and workshop equipment on behalf of Sue Sparks at Benbow Farm in Romansleigh, South Molton, North Devon.

 The sale included a fine collection of rare vintage tractors, which included a Roadless 980, selling for a very respectable £19,800. Interest for the tractor was drawn from far and wide but the hammer fell to a local purchaser, with the tractor joining a choice collection of collectable tractors in Witheridge.

 County tractors were also well represented at the sale, with an 1124 Super Six achieving £11,000 and an 1174 restoration project realised £9,500.

Leading the prices within the lots of plant were a six-tonne tracked Sumitomo SH60 selling for £7,600, a JCB Loadall 520-4 which realised £4,100 and a useful Sirius Plus Pel-Job 1.5T mini digger which found its level at £3,300.

The sale also included a large quantity of stationary engines, with no less than 60 sold throughout the day. Leading the engines was a Blackstone Open Crank Carters, which was believed to originate from Lundy Island, with the hammer falling at £3,900. A Gardener engine sold for £2,800 and Ruston Hornsby Class AP sold for £1,100.

Specialist machinery auctioneer Tom Mellor said: “The sale was a strong indication that despite the uncertain political climate we are all enduring at present, the demand for good quality, collectable vintage tractors and equipment remains strong.”
